I have had some issues with stiff and cramping lower back in general although not cronic. This support made a big difference to my squats, it feels much more stable when squatting heavy. It definitely helps a lot if your lower back is the limiting factor - provided you have a strong posterior chain that you built up. You can not rely on the back support as a crutch.
